Planning: Shotlist, Script and Storyboard

There is not a lot of dialogue in the title opening sequence. There is more action and music used. Here is the dialogue that will be used in the sequence:
The phone rings as Stacey is walking down the street after leaving the house. It is a quiet but an embarrassing ring tone. She answers the phone;
Stacey: “Hello, It’s me, I am on my way to the train station I won’t be long.”
She hangs up and then continues to walk down the street.

Shot list and production schedule

Location 1
The first location we are going to film at is outside Stacey’s house. It is a short sequence of her coming out of the house and then walking down the street and calling her friend.
-Close up
-Zoom in
-Over the shoulder
-180 degrees around her as she is on the phone

Location 2

The second location is the killer’s house in the basement and him coming out of his house.

-Extreme close up
-Over the shoulder
-180 degrees when in the basement

Location 3

The third location at the train station will be filmed last as it needs to be dark. Some of the shots we are going to use are:

-Over the shoulder
-Angle reverse angle
-Close up
-Low angle domineering shots


In some of the locations we are going to use the same film running but in different angles so many of the shots will be filmed at least three times but from different perspectives as well as angles.


Evaluation: "Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product? "

When i first started the preliminary task I had very little knowledge of how to edit video. Since the preliminary project I've learnt about continuity editing, as well as shot reverse shot and how edit things like match on action. I've also learnt how to add in and edit audio and over lay multiple video tracks.
I've learnt the forms and conventions for thriller films, and some forms and conventions of other genres as well.
I developed the ability to storyboard and plan a project, including shot lists and scripts, this was very useful for the main task. The preliminary task also gave me the chance to work in a group with some of my classmates, which gave me an experience of what it was like to have a specific thing to do within the group, which ultimately helped us complete the main task.

This is what i progressed to after the preliminary,
overlapping videos with an added text layer and a
black and white filter.
This was me using a red filter to keep in line with the forms
and conventions of thriller films, it's also an over-the shoulder
shot, to show the characters perspective.

Evaluation: "What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?"

To edit the videos we used adobe premiere elements. This is a very easy to use tool that allows multiple tracks of video to be cut and put together, as well as allowing them to lead into eachother with transitions and also allowing for effects to be applied. This software also allows you to insert and cut audio tracks too.

For the Filming itself we also used a sony video camera. This was a very useful tool as it allowed us to film, and re-watch what we had done at our filming locations, to re-shoot as nessecary. The camera could record video and audio, or just take snapshots, It also allowed us to easily access the videos and images on it via a usb cable.


Also to publish our work into a easy to analyse format we have used blogger, to create a blog. Blogger is capable of embedding videos and the uploading of images. This has been very useful in organising my work.


Evaluation: "How did you attract/address your audience?"

Firstly by sticking to the accepted forms and conventions of thriller films it makes it very easy for fans of the genre to identify what kind of film it is, and thusly that they will enjoy it. Below are two videos, the opening tilte sequence of Se7en and our opening title sequence, this is to illistrate the conventions of thriller movies we have followed.


















Also the cast we used represents the age group of our target audience, which will make it easy for the audience to relate to characters, and seeing the characters in trailers will attract them to the film.

While the music we used complimented the video very well, outside the film, i don't think it would appeal to our target demographic very much.

Evaluation "Who would be the audience for your media product? "

The Perfect Viewer:

This is stacey She is 18 and likes thriller movies and would come to see the film with friends. The film would appeal to her because it both stars and is aimed at her demographic.

Evaluation: "What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? "

As we decided our film was geared towards being a blockbuster, New Line Cinema would be a very good choice of distribution company. They have distributed similar films such as Friday the 13th and The Number 23. We believe new line cinema would distribute our film as it is similar to their catalogue. Also, our film has the same target audience as most of new line cinemas films (18-24 year olds)

As a major distributer, New Line Cinema would distribute to all major cinema chains, such as odeon.







Evaluation : "How does your media product represent particular social groups?"

Our cast consists of only 3 teenagers, one of whom is never fully visible.

The first of our cast members is Peter Soar(pictured left) , a 19 year old white Englishman, he is middle class.

He is portrayed as a highly intelligant and educated young man, he is obsessed with cleanliness. He looks normal, and is representitive of the single white middle class teenage male. He is not a stereotypical representation of one, as he appears to be very down to earth whereas the middle class are stereotypically portrayed as "snobs"














The second of our cast members is Stacey Fahy( pictured left), she is 18 years old, white working class girl. She is representetive of her age group and race, however she is not a sterotypical representation of a working class english girl as she is smartly dressed and well spoken. This is a positive representation of the british working class.
